Justin Timberlake’s mugshot has been released following his US arrest for allegedly driving while intoxicated early Tuesday morning (local time).

The singer was pulled over for failing to stop at a stop sign and arrested just after midnight in Sag Harbor, New York, a spokesperson for Sag Harbor Police said. He was held in custody overnight.

Timberlake was behind the wheel of a grey Florida-registered BMW when he was stopped a little after 12.18am near Madison St and Middle Line Hwy for driving through a stop sign and failing to stay on the right side of the road, according to the criminal complaint.

A complaint filed in court Tuesday indicated the officer said Timberlake’s eyes were “bloodshot and glassy” and a “strong odour of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath”, NBC reported the complaint as alleging.

“He was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot, and he performed poorly on all standardised field sobriety tests,” the complaint read.

In the mugshot, the singer’s eyes appear glassy and bloodshot.

The officer quoted Timberlake as saying he had only had one drink during the exchange.

“I had one martini and I followed my friends home,” NBC reported the star as telling police.

The singer also declined to be tested for impairment, allegedly telling police: “No, I’m not doing a chemical test.”

On Wednesday, US reporter Mylee Hogan appeared on Sunrise to discuss the shock arrest.

“He was arrested just after midnight and taken back to the police station, where he was charged with driving while intoxicated,” Hogan explained.

“Here is his mugshot. He spent the night in the police station and this morning he went to the courthouse with his lawyer and was later allowed to go home.

“Court documents reveal that police saw him run a stop sign and then veer into the wrong lane.

“They’ve pulled him over, where Justin Timberlake has then refused a breathalyser test, which is his right.

“Instead, he was given a field sobriety test. That’s where police can ask you to walk in a straight line or stand on one form.

“He performed poorly during that test, with police saying he was unsteady on his feet.

“Timberlake is currently on tour. His next performance is on Friday in Chicago. It’s unclear if he will be attending that.”

Timberlake will next attend court on July 26.
