The Voice star Jason Derulo has created shockwaves by accusing his fellow judges of being “rude” and “consumed in themselves”.

The US star took the extraordinary swipe against Guy Sebastian, Rita Ora and Jess Mauboy after 18-year-old NSW singer Emily Kate took to the stage, prompting a staggering reaction from Rita.

All four judges turned for Emily after her performance, leading Guy, Jess and Rita to all aggressively pitch for her to join their teams.

When it came time for Jason to speak, he immediately took aim at the judges for not learning more about Emily.

“I feel like all the other coaches are consumed in themselves, you know?” Jason said.

“I’d like to know more about you. How did you start singing - I mean they so rudely didn’t ask anything about you.”

When Jess responded with “oh wow” and Rita claimed that Emily’s “voice said everything”, Jason continued: “I’m here because this is her moment. This is her moment.”

Outraged by Jason’s comments, Rita took swift action by blocking the US judge from pitching for Emily.

“Well it’s definitely not going to be your moment,” Rita sang to Jason while dramatically hitting the “block” button.

The act prompted a wild reaction from the Voice audience, as well as the other judges.

Even Emily was stunned by the move, saying: “Oh he’s blocked?!”

Rita told the singer she pulled the shock manoeuvre in a bid to win her over.

“I had one block left, one place left,” she said.

“I just blocked him for you. I’ll do anything for you.”

Jason was stunned by the move, unable to believe Rita’s harsh move.

“Yooooooo,” he said, shaking his head.

Rita then continued to pitch hard for Emily to join her team.

“If I have any more blocks, I would have blocked them all,” she said.

“I need you on my team.”

She then added that Jason raised a valid point with his criticism of the other judges.

“I genuinely actually do want to know your story, that was a really valid question - I’m going to just re-ask it because it will mean something coming from me,” she said.

After Emily opened up about herself, the time came for her to make her choice - and she selected Team Rita.

“You have completed my team, you are so great,” Rita told Emily.

Guy noted that it was the “power of the block”.
