A woman has been found naked and screaming on a suburban street in the ACT, after allegedly being trapped and raped by a man in a nearby house.

The woman was spotted by an ACT Police officer on a street in Canberra’s inner north about 7pm on Monday.

Officers immediately took her into their car, where she said she had been confined to a nearby home for a number of days.

She alleged the man repeatedly assaulted and sexually assaulted her during that time, causing numerous injuries.

A 44-year-old Lyneham man was arrested shortly after and charged with forcible confinement, rape, assault and failing to appear.

The investigation is ongoing, and police expect further charges will be laid against the man.

He was scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
